Inventory
Let users keep a list of their equipment and spec out each item:
- Type: telescope, binoculars, mount, eyepiece, camera, filter, Barlow, etc.
- Name, plus specs that depend on the type: aperture, focal length, focal ratio, magnification, field of view, sensor, and so on.
- Optional notes and an optional retired flag, so old gear drops out of the picker without breaking old log entries.
Linking to observations
ObservationEditor currently has a fixed picker (Naked eye, Binoculars, Telescope, Camera), and Observation.equipment is one free-text string written to :EQUIPMENT:.
- Replace the picker with a picker over inventory items. Allow more than one item per observation (e.g. scope + eyepiece + filter).
- Store stable item IDs in the Org property drawer and keep a readable name next to them, so the files still make sense in Emacs and orgstar.
- Existing entries that only have free-text
:EQUIPMENT:still parse and display.
Usage stats
For each item:
- Number of observations, plus first and last use.
- Distinct objects observed with it, and the most-viewed objects.
- Breakdowns by month or season, and average seeing across its sessions.
- Combinations used together most often (e.g. which eyepieces get used with which scope).
