SSH keys

Your key is your identity on gitbay: there are no passwords. Registering pastes the public half of a key pair; the private half never leaves your machine.

Make a key

ssh-keygen -t ed25519 -C "you@host"

Accept the default path. Two files land in ~/.ssh/: id_ed25519 is private, keep it; id_ed25519.pub is public, paste it.

Get the public half

cat ~/.ssh/id_ed25519.pub

One line, starting ssh-ed25519 AAAA… and ending with your comment. That whole line is what the registration form and register want.

Check it works

ssh git@gitbay.org whoami
