Stacked on !13 (targets m5-library). Drafted text for your review; nothing here is final copy.
| Section | Pages | Images |
|---|---|---|
| Sun, planets, dwarf planets | 14 | NASA (Haumea, Makemake: one NASA illustration) |
| Moons | 21 | NASA |
| Constellations | 88 | 64 Urania's Mirror plates (LoC), 24 none |
| Stars | 50 | 5 (ESA/Hubble, ESO), 45 none |
| Deep sky (Messier) | 110 | NASA 54, ESA/Hubble 34, NOIRLab 22 |
| Missions | 42 | NASA, 3 ESA (CC BY-SA 3.0 IGO); Vostok 1 none |
Checks: swift test (LibraryTests over all 325 pages) passes; scripts/check-library.py found 1,436 URLs, 0 problems (loc.gov item pages return 403 to scripts and are exempted).
Decisions to confirm
- SEDS Messier Database (amateur reference) as a source for NGC numbers, apparent sizes and the 17 Messier objects without a NASA page. Facts only, no text.
- Constellation areas and ranks from AstroPixels (F. Espenak). Best month and fully-visible latitudes are calculated from the IAU boundaries and cited as such (VizieR VI/49).
- Image credits naming NASA mission partners (SSI, U. Arizona, JHUAPL, DLR, MSSS, ASU) treated as NASA public domain.
- ESA images under CC BY-SA 3.0 IGO for Rosetta, Gaia, JUICE. The Rosetta page also shows "ESA Standard Licence".
- Luna 9 image (NSSDC credit, Soviet origin) marked public domain.
- Missions without an image allowed (Vostok 1: the only NASA image is a portrait).
Values to know about
- Moon counts follow NASA's newer pages (Jupiter 115, Saturn 293, Uranus 29); NSSDC sheets lag.
- Outer-planet distances quote the NSSDC J2000 AU value.
- M64 discovery 1779 and M66 = NGC 3627 corrected from NASA's pages via SEDS; M46 magnitude is the cluster's, not the foreground nebula's.
- Juno marked active (NASA page says so; no extension notice found); OSIRIS-REx active as OSIRIS-APEX; Gaia complete.
- Stars: the 50 are ranked by Bright Star Catalogue V; 8 have no luminosity or radius.
- Moons other than the Moon have no axial-tilt value (none sourced).
Text not tied to a cited page (spot-check)
- Star name meanings in several star essays.
- Some planetary essay details (Neptune winds, Mercury night-side temperature, Uranus ring count, Saturn ring-plane crossing 2025).
- A few finding directions (e.g. M50 between Sirius and Procyon) and naked-eye/binocular visibility notes.
- Constellation history and mythology (standard, no per-claim source).
